Best IBS Apps 2026: Trackers Compared

Updated 3 September 2026 · Educational overview, not medical advice. Does not diagnose or treat IBS or any other condition.

An IBS week is rarely one bathroom trip. Bloating sits next to a lunch you were not sure about. Urgency sits next to a meeting you cannot leave. A mixed Bristol day sits next to a night that did not count as sleep. You walk into gastroenterology with a story that will not stay in one sentence.

A good tracker keeps that week. The history can then show what tended to sit next to a loud stall and what sat next to a quieter stretch. The visit gets a record instead of a guess.

This page looks at eight tools people actually open, then names a few we also saw.

Quick answer: best IBS apps in 2026

What’s new in 2026

The IBS shelf is crowded. FODMAP scanners launch with polished copy and a thin rating history. We do not treat a listing that arrived this month as a settled option.

Cara Care remains the large food and FODMAP IBS tracker people actually live in. Nerva remains the gut-directed hypnosis program. The Monash University FODMAP Diet app remains the official database. Bowelle remains the simple IBS diary. mySymptoms remains the food-first diary that has been on the store for years. Bearable remains the workbench you configure yourself. IBS Pal is the newer scanner on this list; the public rating history is still small.

How we compared

We read public product pages and store listings. For IBS itself we used long-standing clinical overviews from the Mayo Clinic and the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases. We did not invent reviews.

What we weighted: IBS-specific forms, not empty boxes; a stool log that belongs to this condition; food next to that stall; a flare or urgency record of its own; a cycle tracker and a personal journal, because a period week and a mixed bathroom week often travel together; insights that use that history; a way to prepare a gastroenterology visit; and an honest backing column. IBS Journey is partial at being the Monash FODMAP encyclopedia. It is not a gut-directed hypnosis program. Those are different jobs, and we say so below. Store rank is listed later. It is not a column in the table.

We make IBS Journey at Health Journey Labs. We still say where another app on this list is a better fit.

The eight apps

Our pick

IBS Journey

IBS Journey is an IBS tracker that keeps the bathroom, the plate, and the rest of the day in the same record. You log bowel movements, meals, sleep, stress, medications, and how the day went. The app reads that history and returns insights: small changes in food, sleep, stress, or timing that may ease symptoms or help you watch them. It is made by Health Journey Labs and runs on iPhone and Android.

The useful unit in IBS is often a stall and a meal that share a clock. The stool tracker is built for this condition, including the Bristol pattern of the day, not a generic bathroom note. The food tracker logs each meal with fields that belong to IBS, so garlic at lunch and urgency at 3 p.m. can be read together.

Weight can live in the same week, with optional body measurements if that is part of how you watch the condition. The Daily Journal holds how the day went, including personal relationships, because a cancelled dinner and a difficult conversation are part of the same Tuesday as the stall.

When a flare or a wave of urgency arrives, you log it as its own record, not only as a louder daily check-in. The menstrual cycle can sit next to the same month, because a period week and a mixed Bristol week often travel together.

Clara and a set of specialist companions answer from medically reviewed sources and from the full history you have shared, so a question about bloating or a loud morning is answered against your own weeks. That same history becomes notes and questions for the next gastroenterology visit.

Works best for someone who wants stool, food, and the day in one tracker, not only a notepad. Biggest weakness: it is not a physical clinic with professionals on site to see you.

Food and FODMAP IBS tracker

Cara Care

Cara Care is listed by HiDoc. It is a food and FODMAP tracker built for IBS, with programs that also speak to IBD and other gut trouble. The public listing we checked showed a 4.8 average from about 4,650 ratings. That is a large, lived-in product, not a new name with empty stars.

What it includes is the log people actually open: a food tracker, a poop tracker, and symptoms such as bloating, pain, constipation, and diarrhea. A dashboard shows food on the best days and the worst days. The premium path describes a twelve-week low-FODMAP program and text chat with a dietitian. You can share the record with a clinician.

What it is not is a full personal week. A dedicated cycle tracker and a journal of relationships are not the center of the product. Companions that read your whole history are not the job. Cara Care is strongest as a food-and-stool IBS program. It is also not the official Monash FODMAP encyclopedia, even though FODMAP is in the pitch.

Works best for someone who wants a FODMAP-guided food log with a large public rating history. Biggest weakness: the rest of the week — a flare log of its own, a personal journal, visit notes built from that history — sits behind a program rather than a full IBS day.

Gut-brain hypnosis program

Nerva

Nerva is listed by Mindset Health. It is a gut-brain program, not a diary. You follow a six-week course of daily audio hypnosis, short lessons on how the gut and brain talk, and breathing for a loud hour. The public listing we checked showed a 4.7 average from about 14,600 ratings.

What it includes is the program itself, a check-in so you can see whether symptoms moved, a flare-up toolkit of guided exercises, and a way to share progress with a clinician if you opt in. The research story sits with gut-directed hypnotherapy and work associated with Monash.

What it is not is a stool-and-food log. Nerva will not hold Bristol next to lunch, or a period week next to a mixed bathroom week. If the gastroenterologist still needs a record, you need a tracker as well. IBS Journey is not this program, and we do not pretend it is.

Works best for someone who wants gut-directed hypnosis on the phone and will do the daily session. Biggest weakness: it does not replace a log, and it is not trying to.

IBS food and stool diary

Bowelle

Bowelle is listed by Bowelle AB. It is a food and symptom diary aimed at IBS: meals, bowel movements, stress, water, how you feel, and custom fields you add. The public listing we checked showed a 4.7 average from about 2,238 ratings. Charts overlap those streams so you can look for a pattern. Reports can go to a clinician by email.

Public materials describe it as an iPhone app. We did not treat an Android twin as a fact. The product is a diary you read, not insights that use the history to suggest a next change.

Works best for someone on iPhone who wants a fast IBS diary with charts. Biggest weakness: you interpret the charts yourself, and the public path we saw is iPhone.

Official FODMAP database

Monash FODMAP Diet

The Monash University FODMAP Diet app is the official database from the group that built the low-FODMAP diet. The public listing we checked showed a 4.2 average from about 2,568 ratings. The food guide uses a traffic-light system for tested foods. Recipes, a booklet, and a dietitian directory sit around that guide.

A diary in the app can record food, IBS symptoms, bowel habits, and stress, including the reintroduction step of the diet. That diary serves the diet. It is not a full IBS life record.

What it is not is a symptom tracker in the sense this page uses the phrase. Cycle, a personal journal, flares as their own record, and companions are not the product. Monash is the encyclopedia. IBS Journey is the week around it, not the food list itself.

Works best for someone following the three-step FODMAP diet, often with a dietitian. Biggest weakness: a database and a diet diary will not prepare a visit the way a full week of stool, sleep, and stress can.

Food and symptom diary

mySymptoms Food Diary

mySymptoms is listed by SkyGazer. It is a food, drink, and symptom diary used across IBS, IBD, and suspected intolerances. The public listing we checked showed a 4.6 average from about 4,041 ratings. You can log meals, medications, stress, exercise, energy, sleep, and bowel movements on the Bristol scale. Correlation analysis looks for food that sat next to a symptom.

It is a general diary you can point at IBS. It will not arrive with IBS forms already sketched. You teach it the condition. Reports can go to a clinician.

Works best for someone who wants a food-first diary with correlation charts. Biggest weakness: you spend the first week teaching it IBS.

Website: mysymptoms.net

FODMAP scanner

IBS Pal

IBS Pal is a FODMAP scanner. Public pages describe barcode checks, meal photos, a personal trigger list, and a symptom journal. The public listing we checked showed a 4.7 average from about 136 ratings. That is a small history. We do not treat a thin listing as a settled daily product.

Works best for someone who wants to scan a label in the aisle. Biggest weakness: a scanner is not a week of stool, sleep, and stress, and the public rating history is still thin.

You build the model

Bearable

Bearable is a general symptom and factor tracker used across chronic illness. You choose what to log: symptoms, sleep, meds, food, custom metrics. Then you look at correlation charts. IBS can be one of the lives it holds if you build the list.

You can represent an IBS week if you invent the stool, food, and urgency factors. The app will not arrive with an IBS stall already sketched. That is the point for some people and the cost for others.

Works best for someone who wants to configure every factor. Biggest weakness: you spend the first week inventing the IBS list yourself.

At-a-glance comparison

Cells are Yes / Partial / No / Unknown. Unknown is better than a guess. IBS forms means the screens already ask IBS questions. Stool means a bowel log that belongs to this condition, not only a note field. Food means meals can live in the same week as that stall. Flare/urgency means a flare or a wave of urgency is its own record, not only a louder daily slider. Cycle means a period tracker. Journal means a personal daily journal, including mood and relationships, not only a symptom score. History insights means the app uses what you logged to suggest a small next change. A chart you interpret alone is Partial. Doctor Visit Prep means notes and questions for the next appointment, built from that history — not a clinician on staff. Backing is who stands behind the listing. The fit score is ours, to one decimal. It is not a medical rating. IBS Journey is partial at being a FODMAP encyclopedia; that job belongs to Monash. It is not a gut-brain hypnosis program; that job belongs to Nerva.

Choose Cara Care if…

  • You want a large food and FODMAP IBS program, including a dietitian path.
  • You are fine that this is a guided food-and-stool product, not a full personal journal.

Choose Nerva or Monash if…

  • Nerva: you want gut-directed hypnosis, and you already have a place to log the week — or you accept that the program is not a log.
  • Monash: you want the official FODMAP database, not a symptom tracker.

Choose Bearable or Bowelle if…

  • Bearable: you want to build every factor yourself.
  • Bowelle: you want a simple IBS diary on iPhone, and you will read the charts yourself.

Where IBS Journey ranks

Search charts in the countries we checked did not show a strong iPhone slot. On Android, IBS Journey sits in the top 5 in the United States. That is a real chart position. It is not number one everywhere. In the United Kingdom it sits at #7. In Canada and in France it sits at #11. Those slots move a little from week to week. They are store charts, not a clinical league table, which is why they sit here and not in the comparison above.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best IBS app in 2026?

It depends on the job. Our pick for a full IBS log is IBS Journey. You keep stool, food, sleep, stress, medications, and how the day went in one record, and you get insights: small changes that may ease symptoms or help you watch them. That is a publisher pick: we make the app. Cara Care is the large food and FODMAP IBS program. Nerva is a gut-directed hypnosis program, not a log. The Monash University FODMAP Diet app is the official FODMAP database. Bearable is the workbench you configure yourself.

Where does IBS Journey rank in the stores?

On Android it sits in the top 5 in the United States, at number 7 in the United Kingdom, and at number 11 in Canada and in France. Search charts in the countries we checked did not show a strong iPhone slot. Those slots move a little. We do not list a rank for every other app here.

What is the difference between a FODMAP app and a symptom tracker?

They do different jobs. A FODMAP app tells you whether a food was tested as high or low in fermentable carbohydrates. The Monash University FODMAP Diet app is the official database for that work. A symptom tracker holds the stall, the meal, the night, and the stressful afternoon in one week. You can use both. IBS Journey is partial at being that encyclopedia. It is a log, not the Monash food guide.

Does Nerva replace a food and stool log?

No. Nerva is a six-week gut-directed hypnosis program. The daily audio is the product. A gastroenterology visit still needs a week: Bristol, meals, sleep, stress. Pair Nerva with a tracker if you want both. IBS Journey is not a hypnosis program.

Should stool and food live in the same app?

Yes, if they can share a clock. Garlic at lunch and urgency at 3 p.m. only become a pattern when they sit on the same day. IBS Journey keeps an IBS-specific stool tracker next to a food tracker that logs each meal with fields that belong to this condition.

Do stress, sleep, and the menstrual cycle belong in an IBS log?

They can. The week is rarely only food. A short night, a hard morning, and a period week often sit next to the same urgency or the same mixed Bristol day. Logging them does not mean they caused IBS. IBS Journey keeps stress, sleep, and the cycle in the same history as stool and food.

Can I ask an AI companion about IBS?

Yes, if the answer is grounded in medically reviewed material and in the history you have already logged, and if you do not treat it as a diagnosis. Clara and the specialist companions in IBS Journey use clinical sources and your own weeks. They cannot diagnose IBS, change a dose, or replace a gastroenterologist.

Do weekly goals make sense with IBS?

A small, measurable goal can, if it sits next to the log. Logging breakfast and Bristol for seven days, or holding a regular bedtime on the two loudest weeknights, is useful because you can see whether that week felt different. A vague goal with no stool log is a wish. IBS Journey keeps weekly goals next to the same history the insights use.

What should I bring to a gastroenterologist for IBS?

The Bristol days, the meals that sat next to the loud hours, sleep and stress around those days, medications, and whether urgency arrived as its own event. IBS Journey turns that history into notes and questions for the visit. Cara Care can share a food-and-stool record. Neither one is a gastroenterologist.

Does an IBS app diagnose IBS?

No. IBS is a clinical diagnosis. An app can hold symptoms, meals, and medications a clinician uses. It cannot diagnose, and it cannot replace an examination or the tests your clinician orders.

Is there a free IBS tracker?

IBS Journey lets you keep logging on the free path; insights and chat have a cap. Other apps on this list describe free cores or trials. We do not publish competitor prices because they change.

Can an app replace my gastroenterologist?

No. Tracking supports a visit. It does not replace examination, prescribing, or emergency care. Blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, fever, or a change that scares you is clinic or emergency territory, not a chat.

How long should I log before the week means anything?

A couple of weeks start to show food and stool patterns. A month is more useful than an afternoon, because IBS is a pattern condition and one loud Tuesday is not a baseline. IBS Journey is built for that longer history, not for a single stall.

What is the difference between a food log and an insight?

A food log is memory: what you ate, and what the bathroom did after. An insight is a small next change that history can support, in food, sleep, stress, or timing. Charts you interpret alone are a partial version of that job. IBS Journey returns insights from the record you already kept.

Can one log hold IBS-C, IBS-D, and IBS-M?

Yes. Those letters are bathroom patterns you live, not three different apps. A mixed week is still one week. IBS Journey keeps stool type and frequency in the same history, so a constipated Monday and an urgent Thursday are not forced into two products.

How is urgency different from a flare in a tracker?

Urgency can be a single stall you cannot postpone. A flare is a louder cluster that lasts. Logging both in the same history is how a visit stops hearing only that your stomach has been off. IBS Journey logs flares and urgency when they arrive as their own record, next to the daily check-in.

Is IBS Journey HIPAA ready? How is my data handled?

Privacy is a core value of IBS Journey, not a footnote. The app is HIPAA-ready and GDPR compliant. Data is encrypted with AES-256. Health information is not sold and is not passed to third-party advertising platforms. We treat that protection as a standing rule, not a marketing line. We could not verify the same standard, from public pages, for every other app on this list. If privacy is your main filter, read each developer’s policy before you log labs or a journal.

Start tracking, then pick the tool that fits

Pick a tracker you will open in a work bathroom. Pick one that can also explain the week to a gastroenterologist.

If you need an IBS-specific tracker that keeps stool, food, sleep, stress, and how the day went, and turns that history into a next step, our pick is IBS Journey. If you want a FODMAP program with a dietitian path, choose Cara Care. If you want hypnosis, choose Nerva. If you want the official database, choose Monash. If you want to build every factor yourself, choose Bearable. Those are different products.

Start logging. Keep one system of record. Treat every AI sentence, including ours, as a draft for you and your clinician. It is not a verdict on your body.
